Healthy Halloween Treats for Your Trick-or-Treaters

Posted .

With trick-or-treaters banging on your door and shouting for treats, it’s common to hand the children traditional, sticky, and unhealthy candy. But why not try saving their smile this Halloween by giving them tooth-healthy treats instead?

Tooth-healthy treats that are delicious and acceptable are hard to find, but we are here to help you! Try giving out one or more of the following treats this Halloween night:

• Dark chocolate
• Nuts
• Sugar-free candy
• Sugar-free gum
• Sugar-free suckers
• Granola bars
• Breakfast bars
• Popcorn
• Pretzels
• Apples

You can also try giving out prizes instead of treats, like temporary tattoos, puzzles, and small games. You can also give the trick-or-treaters bottled water (this will hydrate them after all of their walking and shouting) or toothbrushes (this will remind them to brush their teeth after they eat their candy). No matter which treats you decide to give, please do not hand out hard, sticky, or sour candies. These items will cling to the teeth, produce oral acid, and create cavities. So, it’s best to refrain from passing these treats out on Halloween night.
